What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Jaco. They wrote...
"Expats in Jaco often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life, known as "Tico time", can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. Additionally, the high humidity and heat can be difficult for some to adjust to. The local cuisine, which is different from typical Western food, may also pose a challenge for some expats. Lastly, navigating the local bureaucracy, such as dealing with residency permits and local laws, can be complex and frustrating," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Jaco, Costa Rica.
