What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Playa Hermosa. They wrote...
"Expats in Playa Hermosa often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and it can be difficult to communicate without a basic understanding of Spanish. The slower pace of life, known as "Tico time", can also be a challenge for those used to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. Additionally, the local cuisine may be a challenge for some, as it is quite different from typical Western food. The high humidity and heat can also be difficult for those not used to tropical climates. Lastly, adjusting to the local customs and etiquette, such as the importance of family and community, can be a challenge for some expats," explained one expat living in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica.
