What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Playa Samara. They wrote...
"Expats in Playa Samara often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and it can be difficult to communicate without a basic understanding of Spanish. The slower pace of life, known as "Tico time", can also be a challenge for those used to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. Additionally, the lack of certain amenities and services that they might be used to in their home countries, such as high-speed internet or certain types of food, can be difficult to adjust to. Some expats also find it challenging to navigate the local bureaucracy, such as dealing with residency permits or property ownership laws. Lastly, the heat and humidity can be a challenge for those not used to tropical climates," remarked another expat in Playa Samara, Costa Rica.
