What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Monteverde. They wrote...

"Expats in Monteverde, Costa Rica often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. They may also struggle with the slower pace of life, known as "Tico time", which can be frustrating for those accustomed to more punctual cultures. The lack of certain amenities and conveniences that they may be used to from their home countries can also be a challenge. Additionally, adjusting to the local customs and etiquette, such as the importance of personal relationships and respect for elders, can be difficult for some expats. Lastly, the high humidity and rainy weather in Monteverde can be a challenge for those not used to tropical climates," remarked another expat in Monteverde , Costa Rica.
