What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Playa Ocotal. They wrote...

"Expats in Playa Ocotal often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life, known as "Tico time", can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. Additionally, the local cuisine, which is heavily based on rice and beans, may not appeal to everyone's taste. The high humidity and heat can also be difficult for some to adjust to. Lastly, navigating the local bureaucracy for things like visas, permits, and healthcare can be complex and time-consuming," remarked another expat in Playa Ocotal, Costa Rica.
