What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Oistins. They wrote...
"Expats in Oistins often find the laid-back, "island time" pace of life challenging to adjust to, as it can be significantly slower than what they are used to. The local dialect, Bajan, can also be difficult to understand, even for English speakers, as it is a unique blend of British English and West African languages. Some expats may also struggle with the high cost of living, particularly for imported goods, due to the island's remote location. The heat and humidity can be intense, especially for those not accustomed to tropical climates. Lastly, while Barbadians are generally friendly and welcoming, it can take time to fully integrate into the local community and understand the nuances of the culture," remarked another expat who made the move to Oistins, Barbados.
