What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Canoa. They wrote...
"Expats in Canoa often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a more fast-paced, structured lifestyle. Additionally, adjusting to the local customs and etiquette, such as the importance of personal relationships and the concept of "Ecuadorian time", which often involves a more relaxed attitude towards punctuality, can be difficult. The lack of certain amenities and conveniences that they might be used to from their home countries can also be a challenge. Lastly, understanding and navigating the local bureaucracy and legal system, especially for matters like property ownership or starting a business, can be complex and frustrating for expats," said another expat in Canoa, Ecuador.
