What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Rakiraki. They wrote...

"Expats in Rakiraki often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as the majority of the population speaks Fijian or Hindi. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a faster, more hectic lifestyle. Additionally, the concept of 'Fiji time', where punctuality is not strictly adhered to, can be difficult for expats to adjust to. The traditional customs and social etiquette, such as the importance of modesty and respect for elders, may also pose a challenge for newcomers. Lastly, the lack of certain amenities and services that they might be used to in their home countries can also be a significant adjustment," said another expat in Rakiraki, Fiji.
