What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Panajachel. They wrote...

"One of the most challenging aspects of the local culture for expats in Panajachel is the language barrier. Many locals speak only Spanish, and even those who do speak English may not be fluent. This can make it difficult for expats to communicate with locals and to fully understand the culture. Additionally, the local culture is heavily influenced by the Mayan culture, which can be difficult for expats to understand and appreciate. Furthermore, the local customs and traditions can be quite different from those of the expats' home countries, which can be a challenge to adjust to," said a member in Panajachel, Guatemala.
