What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Siena. They wrote...
"Expats in Siena may find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and learning Italian can be difficult. They might also struggle with the slower pace of life, as Italians value leisure and relaxation, which can be frustrating for those used to a faster lifestyle. Additionally, navigating the Italian bureaucracy can be a challenge, as it is known for being complex and time-consuming. Expats may also find it difficult to adapt to the local customs and etiquette, such as the importance of dressing well and the tradition of taking a long lunch break. Finally, making friends with locals can be challenging, as Italians often have close-knit social circles and may be initially reserved towards newcomers," wrote a member who made the move to Siena, Italy.
