What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Queenstown. They wrote...
"Expats in Queenstown often find the language barrier to be a significant challenge, as the local dialects and Singlish can be difficult to understand. The high cost of living, particularly for housing and cars, can also be a major hurdle. Some expats may struggle with the local food, which is often spicy and very different from Western cuisine. The humid and hot climate can also be uncomfortable for those used to cooler temperatures. Additionally, the fast-paced lifestyle and work culture in Singapore can be stressful for some expats. Lastly, understanding and adapting to the local customs and etiquette, such as the importance of saving face and the concept of "kiasu" or fear of losing out, can be challenging," said a member in Queenstown, Singapore.
