What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Mandeville. They wrote...
"Expats in Mandeville often find the laid-back, relaxed pace of life challenging to adjust to, especially if they are used to a fast-paced, structured environment. The local dialect, Patois, can also be difficult to understand and learn, making communication a challenge. The high levels of poverty and crime can be shocking and distressing for expats, and the lack of infrastructure and public services can make everyday life difficult. Additionally, the cultural emphasis on community and family can be overwhelming for those used to a more individualistic culture. Lastly, the heat and humidity of the tropical climate can be uncomfortable for those not used to such conditions," remarked another expat who made the move to Mandeville, Jamaica.
