What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Almaty. They wrote...
"Expats in Almaty often find the language barrier to be one of the most challenging aspects of the local culture. The Kazakh language is the official language of the country, and many locals do not speak English. Additionally, the local customs and traditions can be difficult to understand for those who are not familiar with them. Expats may also find it difficult to adjust to the slower pace of life in Almaty, as well as the lack of modern amenities and infrastructure. Finally, the extreme weather conditions in Almaty can be difficult to adjust to, especially for those coming from warmer climates," remarked another expat in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
