"Expats in Guimaraes may find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English, and Portuguese can be difficult to learn. Additionally, they might struggle with the slower pace of life, as locals tend to value leisure time and socializing over efficiency and punctuality. Navigating the bureaucracy and paperwork for visas, residency, and other official matters can also be a challenge for expats. Furthermore, adapting to the traditional Portuguese cuisine and finding diverse food options might be difficult for some. Lastly, building a social network and making local friends can be challenging, as Portuguese people are known to be warm and friendly but may take time to open up and form deep connections with newcomers," said a member in Guimaraes, Portugal.
