What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Chiang Mai for a while?

We asked expats what residency documents or visas they need when settling in Chiang Mai. They wrote...

"If you plan to stay in Chiang Mai for an extended period of time, you will need to obtain a Non-Immigrant Visa from the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country. Once you have obtained the visa, you will need to register with the local Immigration Office in Chiang Mai and obtain a Certificate of Residence. You will also need to renew your visa and Certificate of Residence every 90 days," remarked another expat who made the move to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

"Extremely easy. There is no actual "residency" It is an extension of stay for 1 year, reporting to immigration every 90 days," explained one expat living in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
