Groceries and dining out can also be more expensive than in other South African towns, with prices influenced by the high-quality local produce and the town's gourmet food scene. However, local wines are often reasonably priced, even for premium labels. Transportation costs are moderate, with options ranging from local taxis to car rentals. However, owning and maintaining a car can be costly due to high petrol prices. Healthcare services in Franschhoek are of a high standard, but private healthcare can be expensive. It's worth noting that the cost of living can be significantly reduced by shopping at local markets, eating at less touristy restaurants, and choosing accommodation slightly outside of the town center.
