What are healthcare services like in San Jose?
We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in San Jose. They wrote...
"Healthcare services in San Jose are generally of high quality, with both public and private healthcare systems available. The public healthcare system, known as ASSE, provides free or low-cost healthcare to all residents, including access to general practitioners, specialists, and hospital care. The private healthcare system, on the other hand, offers a more personalized service with shorter waiting times, but at a higher cost. Many residents opt for a mixed system, using public healthcare for routine check-ups and emergencies, and private healthcare for specialized treatments. Pharmacies are well-stocked and easily accessible throughout the city. The healthcare professionals are well-trained and many of them are proficient in English, making it easier for expatriates. However, rural areas may have less access to healthcare services compared to urban areas," remarked another expat in San Jose, Uruguay.
