What are healthcare services like in Isle of Arran?
We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Isle of Arran. They wrote...
"Healthcare services in the Isle of Arran are primarily provided by the National Health Service (NHS) Scotland. The island has a well-equipped hospital, Arran War Memorial Hospital, located in Lamlash, which offers a range of services including emergency care, minor surgeries, and outpatient clinics. The hospital also has a community nursing team that provides home visits to patients who are unable to travel. In addition to the hospital, there are two GP practices on the island, one in Brodick and one in Whiting Bay, providing primary care services to residents. These practices offer routine check-ups, vaccinations, and treatment for common illnesses. For more specialized care, patients may need to travel to the mainland. The NHS provides patient transport services for those who need to attend appointments on the mainland. Mental health services are also available on the island, with a community mental health team providing support and treatment for a range of mental health conditions. The island also has a number of care homes and assisted living facilities for elderly residents, providing both residential and nursing care. Overall, while the Isle of Arran may not have the same range of healthcare services as larger cities, it provides comprehensive basic care for its residents, with a focus on community and home-based care," commented one expat who made the move to Isle of Arran, Scotland.
