What are healthcare services like in Providencia Island?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Providencia Island. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Providencia Island, are relatively limited due to its remote location and small population. The island has a local hospital, the Hospital Amor de Patria, which provides basic medical care and emergency services. However, for more specialized treatments and advanced medical procedures, patients often need to travel to the mainland, specifically to San Andres or even further to the larger cities like Bogota or Medellin. Access to healthcare professionals, such as doctors and nurses, can be challenging, and the availability of medical supplies and equipment may be limited. Additionally, public healthcare services may be overcrowded, and private healthcare options are scarce on the island. It is recommended for visitors to have travel insurance that covers medical evacuation in case of emergencies," remarked another expat in Providencia Island, Colombia.
