"Healthcare services in Manuel Antonio, are generally of good quality, with a mix of public and private facilities available. The public healthcare system, known as Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS), provides basic medical services to residents and tourists alike. However, it may have longer wait times and limited resources compared to private healthcare facilities. Private healthcare services in Manuel Antonio are more expensive but offer a higher standard of care, with well-equipped clinics and hospitals, English-speaking staff, and shorter wait times. Many expats and tourists opt for private healthcare insurance to cover the costs of private medical care. However, it is recommended to bring any necessary prescription medications from your home country, as some specific drugs may not be available. In case of emergencies, the nearest hospital to Manuel Antonio is the Hospital de Quepos, located in the nearby town of Quepos. This hospital provides emergency services, general medical care, and surgical procedures. For more specialized treatments or complex medical issues, patients may need to travel to the capital city, San Jose, where there are larger hospitals and specialized medical centers," commented one expat who made the move to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.
