What are healthcare services like in Hvar?
We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Hvar. They wrote...
"Hvar, offers a range of healthcare services to both residents and visitors. The island has a small hospital in Hvar town, which provides basic medical services and emergency care. For more specialized treatments, patients may need to travel to Split, which is the nearest city with larger hospitals and specialized clinics. There are also several pharmacies on the island where prescription and over-the-counter medications can be purchased. The healthcare professionals in Hvar are generally well-trained and many of them speak English, making it easier for tourists to communicate their health issues. However, it's recommended for visitors to have travel insurance that covers medical expenses, as healthcare can be expensive, especially for non-residents. Despite the limitations, the healthcare system in Hvar is generally considered to be of a good standard, with a focus on patient care and safety," said another expat in Hvar, Croatia.
