The healthcare professionals in Chichicastenango are dedicated and hardworking, but they are often understaffed and under-resourced. They provide services such as general check-ups, vaccinations, and treatment for common illnesses. However, for more serious or specialized medical conditions, residents often have to travel to larger cities like Quetzaltenango or Guatemala City. Public healthcare in Chichicastenango, like in the rest of Guatemala, is free but often inadequate due to lack of funding. Many residents opt for private healthcare, which offers better quality services but at a higher cost. Health education and preventive care are not widely emphasized in Chichicastenango, leading to high rates of preventable diseases.
