What are healthcare services like in Vientiane?
We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Vientiane. They wrote...
"Healthcare services in Vientiane are improving but there remain numerous gaps between accessibility and quality of care. Public hospitals receive limited government support and offer limited care, with long waiting times and a shortage of medical supplies and doctors. Private hospitals offer better services, though the cost of care is still fairly high for most Lao people. Pharmacies are generally accessible, though there is often a lack of modern medical equipment and technology in either public or private hospitals. In terms of mental health services, there is a lack of trained psychologists and psychiatrists in Vientiane, though there are now some mental health services available. Malaria is also endemic in Vientiane with little prevention or treatment services available," commented one expat who made the move to Vientiane, Laos.
