What are healthcare services like in Ensenada?
We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Ensenada. They wrote...
"Healthcare services in Ensenada are generally of good quality, with both public and private healthcare facilities available. The city has several hospitals and clinics that offer a wide range of medical services, from routine check-ups to specialized treatments. Public healthcare is provided by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), which operates a number of clinics and hospitals in the city. However, these facilities can sometimes be crowded and waiting times can be long. Private healthcare in Ensenada is also widely available and is often preferred by expatriates and wealthier locals. Private hospitals and clinics generally offer a higher standard of care, with more modern facilities and shorter waiting times. Many doctors and medical staff in private healthcare facilities are bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English, which can be beneficial for foreign patients. Pharmacies are plentiful in Ensenada, and many medications that would require a prescription in other countries can be purchased over the counter. However, it's always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any new medication. Dental care is also readily available in Ensenada, with many locals and tourists alike taking advantage of the high-quality, affordable services offered by local dentists. Many of these dentists are trained in the United States or Europe, ensuring a high standard of care. In terms of emergency services, Ensenada has a number of ambulance services, including the Red Cross, which operates 24/7. However, response times can vary depending on the location and time of day. Overall, while healthcare services in Ensenada may not be up to the standard of more developed countries, they are generally of good quality and are improving all the time. It's always recommended for visitors to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, as healthcare costs can be high, particularly in private facilities," wrote a member who made the move to Ensenada, Mexico.
