What are healthcare services like in Delft?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Delft. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Delft are of high quality and easily accessible. The city has several well-equipped hospitals and clinics that offer a wide range of medical services. The healthcare system is based on a model of compulsory health insurance, which covers a large portion of the cost of most medical services. General practitioners (GPs) are usually the first point of contact for patients, and they can refer patients to specialists if necessary. Many GPs in Delft speak English, making it easier for expatriates to communicate their health concerns. Pharmacies are also widely available throughout the city, providing prescription and over-the-counter medications. Some pharmacies are open 24 hours for emergencies. Dental care is also readily available, although it is not typically covered by basic health insurance. Mental health services are also accessible, with several psychologists and psychiatrists practicing in the city. In addition to traditional healthcare services, Delft also offers a range of alternative and complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and homeopathy. Emergency services in Delft are efficient and reliable. In case of a medical emergency, residents can dial the national emergency number for immediate assistance. Overall, Delft's healthcare system is comprehensive and designed to ensure that residents have access to the care they need," explained one expat living in Delft, The Netherlands.
