Most reported incidents are minor, such as pickpocketing or petty theft, which are common in many tourist areas. Violent crime is extremely rare. Local authorities are efficient and responsive in maintaining safety and order. However, as with any travel destination, it is always recommended for visitors to stay vigilant and take basic safety precautions," commented one expat who made the move to Portovenere, Italy.
