Is there a lot of crime in Cancun?
We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered...
"Cancun, like many popular tourist destinations, does experience crime. The city has seen an increase in crime rates in recent years, particularly in relation to drug trafficking and gang violence. However, it's important to note that most of this crime is concentrated in areas away from the main tourist zones. The hotel zone, where many tourists stay, is generally considered safe, but petty crimes like pickpocketing and theft can occur. Violent crimes against tourists are relatively rare, but they do happen occasionally. The Mexican government has taken steps to increase security in Cancun, particularly in the tourist areas, to ensure the safety of visitors. It's always recommended for tourists to stay vigilant, avoid less crowded areas, especially at night, and follow the advice of local authorities and travel advisories," remarked another expat in Cancun, Mexico.
