What should I pack when moving to Orchard Road?
We asked people living in Orchard Road to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded...
"When moving to Orchard Road, you should pack lightweight and breathable clothing due to the tropical climate. Include a good mix of casual and formal wear, as Singaporeans dress smartly for work and social events. Don't forget to pack a good pair of walking shoes for exploring the city, and sandals for the beach. Rain gear is also essential as Singapore experiences frequent rain showers, so pack a compact umbrella and a lightweight raincoat. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are also necessary to protect yourself from the intense sun. If you're planning to work, bring all necessary documents, including your passport, work visa, and any other identification. Also, pack any prescription medications you take regularly, along with a copy of the prescription. For your new home, consider packing some personal items to make it feel more comfortable and familiar. However, keep in mind that Singapore apartments are often smaller than Western ones, so avoid packing large items. Electronics are expensive in Singapore, so it's a good idea to bring your own, but remember to pack a power adapter as Singapore uses Type G plugs. Lastly, pack toiletries to last the first few weeks, as well as any specific brands you can't live without, as they may be more expensive or hard to find in Singapore," commented one expat who made the move to Orchard Road, Singapore.
