How do I find a place to live in Wanaka?
We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered...
"Finding a place to live in Wanaka involves several steps. First, you need to determine your budget and the type of accommodation you're looking for. This could range from a single room in a shared house to a fully furnished apartment or house. Next, start your search online. Websites like Trade Me Property, realestate.co.nz, and nz.open2view.com are popular platforms for finding rental properties in New Zealand. You can filter your search based on location, price, number of bedrooms, and other features. Another useful resource is local newspapers, such as the Wanaka Sun, which often have property listings in their classifieds section. You can also consider hiring a real estate agent to help with your search. They can provide you with listings that match your criteria, arrange viewings, and assist with the rental application process. Once you've found a potential place, arrange a viewing to inspect the property. Check the condition of the property, ask about the terms of the lease, and find out what costs are included in the rent. If you're happy with the property, you'll need to fill out a rental application. This usually involves providing references, proof of income, and identification. Once your application is approved, you'll need to sign a lease agreement and pay a bond, which is usually equivalent to four weeks' rent. This is held by the Tenancy Services and is returned to you at the end of your tenancy, provided there are no damages or unpaid rent. Finally, arrange for the utilities to be connected, and move into your new home in Wanaka," explained one expat living in Wanaka, New Zealand.
