Public transportation is available but can be unreliable, so having a private vehicle can be beneficial. The healthcare system in Arima is decent, with several hospitals and clinics available, but private health insurance is recommended for more comprehensive coverage. Arima is known for its festivals, particularly the annual Carnival and the Santa Rosa Festival, which celebrate the town's indigenous heritage. Expats should be aware that crime can be an issue, particularly petty theft and burglary, so it's important to take safety precautions.
