What do I need to know before moving to Uvita?

Answer this Question

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Uvita, they said...

"Uvita is a small town located in the Puntarenas Province, known for its beautiful beaches and wildlife. Before moving to Uvita, expats should know that the official language is Spanish, so it would be beneficial to learn the language or at least basic phrases. The cost of living in Uvita is relatively low compared to many Western countries, but it's higher than in other parts of Costa Rica. The town is part of the Costa Ballena, which is a less developed and more tranquil area of the country. It's important to note that Uvita is a small town with a slower pace of life, which might be a significant change for those coming from bustling cities. The healthcare system in Costa Rica is of a high standard, with both public and private options available. Expats should also be aware that the climate in Uvita is tropical, with a rainy season that lasts from May to November. The infrastructure in Uvita and the surrounding areas is not as developed as in larger cities, so power outages and water shortages can occur. Public transportation is available but not always reliable, so having a car can be beneficial. The local cuisine is a mix of traditional Costa Rican food and international dishes, with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Finally, it's important to understand the local customs and culture to integrate into the community successfully. Costa Ricans, or "Ticos," are known for their friendly and laid-back attitude, and the country as a whole is very welcoming to foreigners," said another expat in Uvita, Costa Rica.
