Where should I setup a bank account in Jost Van Dyke?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Jost Van Dyke what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...

"Before retiring in Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands, expats should be aware that the cost of living is relatively high compared to other Caribbean islands. This is due to the fact that most goods are imported. Expats should also know that healthcare facilities on the island are limited. For serious medical conditions, they may need to travel to the main island of Tortola or even to the United States. Therefore, having a comprehensive health insurance plan is crucial. Understanding the local tax laws is also important. The British Virgin Islands does not have income tax, capital gains tax, or inheritance tax. However, there are other taxes such as property tax and payroll tax that expats should be aware of. Expats should also be prepared for the island's tropical climate, which includes a rainy season from September to November. Hurricanes are also a possibility during this period. The official language is English, which makes it easier for English-speaking expats. However, understanding the local culture and customs can help in integrating into the community. The island is small with a population of around 300 people, so it offers a quiet and peaceful lifestyle. However, it can get busy during the tourist season. Expats should also know that the island's infrastructure is basic. Internet service can be unreliable and power outages are not uncommon. Finally, expats should be aware that owning property in the British Virgin Islands involves a rigorous application process. Non-residents need to obtain a Non-Belonger Land Holding License, which can take up to a year to be approved," said another expat in Jost Van Dyke, the British Virgin Islands.
