Where should I setup a bank account in Castries?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Castries what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...

"Expats considering retirement in Castries, should be aware of several key factors. Firstly, the cost of living can be high, particularly for imported goods, due to the island's remote location. Healthcare facilities are limited and may not be up to the standard that expats from developed countries are used to. It is recommended to have comprehensive health insurance that covers medical evacuation. The official language is English, but many locals also speak a French-based Creole, so learning some basic phrases could be beneficial. The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, but US dollars are widely accepted. The climate is tropical, with a wet season from June to November, which can bring hurricanes. The crime rate is relatively low, but petty crime like theft can be an issue, so it's important to take standard precautions. Property can be expensive, especially in popular areas, and there are restrictions on foreigners owning property, so it's advisable to rent initially. The process of obtaining residency can be lengthy and requires proof of financial self-sufficiency. The island has a relaxed, laid-back lifestyle which can be a big adjustment for those used to a fast-paced life. The local culture is rich and vibrant, with many festivals and events throughout the year. The cuisine is a blend of Creole, Indian, and British influences, with a focus on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Public transportation is available but can be unreliable, so having a private vehicle can be beneficial. Lastly, while the island is beautiful and offers many recreational opportunities, it is small and remote, which can lead to feelings of isolation for some," commented one expat who made the move to Castries, Saint Lucia.
