Where should I setup a bank account in Canaries?
We asked expats in Canaries what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...
"Expats considering retirement in the Canaries should be aware of several important factors. Firstly, the cost of living can be higher than in other Caribbean islands, particularly for imported goods. However, local produce and services can be quite affordable. The official language is English, but a local dialect known as Patois is also widely spoken. Learning some basic phrases in both languages can be beneficial for daily life. Healthcare in Saint Lucia is of a good standard, with both public and private facilities available. Expats should ensure they have comprehensive health insurance, as medical costs can be high. The climate is tropical, with a wet season from June to November. Hurricanes can occur during this period, so it's important to be prepared for potential natural disasters. The island's culture is a unique blend of African, French, and British influences. Festivals, music, and cuisine reflect this rich heritage. Safety can be a concern in certain areas, so it's advisable to research neighborhoods thoroughly before choosing a place to live. The immigration process can be complex. A residency permit is required to stay for longer than three months, and this involves a significant amount of paperwork. Finally, while the island is relatively small, there is a lot to explore. From beautiful beaches to rainforests and mountains, outdoor activities are plentiful. It's worth considering your lifestyle and interests when deciding whether Saint Lucia is the right retirement destination for you," said a member in Canaries, Saint Lucia.
