Expats should be aware that they will need a visa to stay long-term in Jamaica, and the process can be lengthy and complex. They should also know that crime can be a concern in some areas, although Treasure Beach is generally considered safe. Expats should understand that the pace of life in Jamaica is slower than in many Western countries, and they may need to adjust their expectations accordingly. They should also be aware that public transportation is not always reliable, and owning a car may be necessary. Finally, expats should know that the local cuisine is a mix of African, Indian, and European influences, and is typically spicy.
