Where should I setup a bank account in Yanbu?
We asked expats in Yanbu what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...
"Expats considering retirement in Yanbu, should be aware of the country's strict Islamic laws and customs, which can be very different from Western norms. They should respect the local culture and traditions, including dress codes, especially for women. Expats should also be aware that the cost of living in Yanbu is relatively high compared to other cities in Saudi Arabia. However, the city offers a high standard of living with modern infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and recreational activities. It's important to note that the official language is Arabic, and while English is widely spoken in business circles, it may not be commonly used in daily life. Therefore, learning some basic Arabic phrases could be beneficial. Expats should also understand that the climate in Yanbu is hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the summer. Healthcare in Saudi Arabia is of a high standard, but it's advisable for expats to have comprehensive health insurance. Expats should also be aware that they may need a Saudi sponsor to obtain a residency permit, known as an Iqama, which is necessary to live and retire in Saudi Arabia. Lastly, it's important to note that Saudi Arabia has strict laws on alcohol, with severe penalties for those caught making, selling, or consuming it," said a member in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
