Where should I setup a bank account in Al Ula?
We asked expats in Al Ula what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...
"Before retiring in Al Ula, expats should know that the official language is Arabic, although English is widely spoken in business and by younger generations. They should be aware that the culture is deeply rooted in Islamic traditions and customs, which greatly influence daily life. Expats should understand that Saudi Arabia has a strict dress code, especially for women, who are expected to wear an abaya in public. Men should also dress modestly, avoiding shorts and sleeveless shirts. Expats must respect the local customs and laws, which include prohibitions on alcohol and pork, and restrictions on entertainment and public conduct. They should be aware that the climate in Al Ula is desert-like, with very hot summers and mild winters. Healthcare in Saudi Arabia is of a high standard, but expats should ensure they have comprehensive health insurance. Expats should also know that they will need a visa to retire in Saudi Arabia, and the process can be complex and time-consuming. They should be prepared for a slower pace of life in Al Ula compared to larger cities, and for the fact that most of the local population does not speak English. Finally, expats should be aware that while Al Ula is a safe city, the political situation in the Middle East can be unstable, and they should stay informed about current events," wrote a member who made the move to Al Ula, Saudi Arabia.
