The city is home to several public hospitals, including Yangon General Hospital, which is the largest and oldest in the country. These hospitals offer a range of services, from primary care to specialized treatments, but often face challenges such as overcrowding, limited resources, and outdated equipment. In recent years, the private healthcare sector in Yangon has grown, with several private hospitals and clinics emerging to cater to the needs of the population. These facilities often provide higher quality care and more advanced treatments, but at a higher cost. Some of the well-known private hospitals in the city include Pun Hlaing Siloam Hospital and Victoria Hospital. In addition to hospitals, there are numerous smaller clinics and pharmacies scattered throughout the city, providing basic healthcare services and medications. Traditional medicine is also widely practiced in Yangon, with many people seeking treatment from traditional healers and herbalists. Despite the growth of the private sector, access to quality healthcare remains a challenge for many residents of Yangon, particularly those with low incomes.
