Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in Aberdeen?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats in Aberdeen if healthcare and health insurance are expensive in Aberdeen, they wrote...

"In Aberdeen, like the rest of the UK, healthcare is largely provided by the National Health Service (NHS), which is publicly funded through general taxation. This means that residents have access to free healthcare, including visits to the doctor, hospital treatment, and some forms of medication. However, there can be costs associated with certain services, such as dental care and prescriptions, although these are often subsidised and there are exemptions for certain groups. Health insurance is not a necessity in Scotland due to the NHS, but some people choose to have it for more immediate access to certain treatments or for treatments not covered by the NHS. The cost of health insurance can vary widely depending on the level of coverage chosen and the individual's personal circumstances, such as age and health condition. However, compared to countries without universal healthcare, such as the United States, the cost of health insurance is generally considered to be less expensive," remarked another expat in Aberdeen, Scotland.
