As a foreigner living in Colombo, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Colombo if they have access to public healthcare in Colombo. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Colombo, you will have access to public healthcare. However, the public healthcare system in Sri Lanka, while providing free services, can be crowded and may not always meet the standards you are accustomed to in your home country. The facilities might be basic, and waiting times can be long. It is also important to note that public hospitals may not have all the necessary equipment or medications readily available. For these reasons, many expatriates and foreigners living in Colombo choose to use private healthcare facilities, which offer better quality care and shorter waiting times, albeit at a higher cost. It is recommended to have comprehensive health insurance to cover any medical expenses in private hospitals," remarked another expat in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
