As a foreigner living in Maracaibo, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Maracaibo if they have access to public healthcare in Maracaibo. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"Yes, as a foreigner living in Maracaibo, you will have access to public healthcare. However, it's important to note that Venezuela's healthcare system has been facing significant challenges due to the country's ongoing economic crisis. Public hospitals and clinics often lack basic supplies and medications, and there is a shortage of trained medical staff. Many facilities are in poor condition and may not have reliable electricity or running water. Waiting times can be long, and the quality of care can vary widely. It's also common for patients to be asked to bring their own medical supplies, such as syringes or bandages. For these reasons, many expatriates and wealthier Venezuelans choose to use private healthcare facilities, which tend to be better equipped and staffed. However, private healthcare can be expensive, and not all services may be covered by insurance. It's recommended to have comprehensive health insurance that covers medical evacuation, in case you need to be transported to a country with higher-quality medical care," wrote a member who made the move to Maracaibo, Venezuela.
