As a foreigner living in Kratie, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Kratie if they have access to public healthcare in Kratie. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Kratie, you will have access to public healthcare, but it's important to note that the quality and availability of services may not be up to the standards you are accustomed to in Western countries. The public healthcare system in Cambodia, including in Kratie, is generally under-resourced and understaffed. Hospitals and clinics often lack modern equipment and trained personnel. Many doctors and nurses in public hospitals do not speak English, which could pose a communication barrier. In addition, the availability of certain treatments and medications may be limited. It's also worth noting that public hospitals in Cambodia are often crowded and waiting times can be long. Hygiene standards in public healthcare facilities may also be lower than what you're used to. For these reasons, many expatriates and wealthier Cambodians prefer to use private healthcare facilities, which generally offer a higher standard of care but at a higher cost. It's also common for foreigners living in Cambodia to travel to neighboring countries like Thailand or Vietnam for more complex medical procedures. Therefore, it's highly recommended for foreigners living in Cambodia to have comprehensive health insurance that covers medical evacuation, in case it's necessary to seek treatment outside the country," commented one expat who made the move to Kratie, Cambodia.
