As a foreigner living in Burgas, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Burgas if they have access to public healthcare in Burgas. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Burgas, you will have access to public healthcare, provided you have registered with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and have a valid health insurance card. Public healthcare in Bulgaria is funded through compulsory health insurance contributions, and it covers a range of services, including primary care, specialist consultations, hospital treatment, and emergency care. However, the quality of public healthcare in Bulgaria may not be up to the standards you are used to in your home country. Facilities and equipment may be outdated, and there might be long waiting times for certain treatments. Additionally, not all medical staff may speak English fluently, which could pose communication challenges. It is recommended that you also consider obtaining private health insurance for better quality care and access to private hospitals and clinics," commented one expat who made the move to Burgas, Bulgaria.
