As a foreigner living in Pereira, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Pereira if they have access to public healthcare in Pereira. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"Yes, as a foreigner living in Pereira, you will have access to public healthcare. However, you will need to have a resident visa and be contributing to the social security system to be eligible. The healthcare system in Colombia is quite advanced, with a high standard of medical facilities and well-trained medical professionals. The public healthcare system, known as EPS (Entidad Promotora de Salud), provides a wide range of services from general consultations to surgeries and emergency care. However, it's important to note that public hospitals can sometimes be crowded and waiting times can be long. For this reason, many expats choose to take out private health insurance, which gives them access to private hospitals and clinics where the standard of care is often even higher and waiting times are shorter," remarked another expat who made the move to Pereira, Colombia.
