As a foreigner living in Bridgetown, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Bridgetown if they have access to public healthcare in Bridgetown. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"Yes, as a foreigner living in Bridgetown, you will have access to public healthcare. The healthcare system in Barbados is well-developed and offers a high standard of medical services. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown is the main public healthcare provider, offering a wide range of services. There are also numerous polyclinics scattered across the island that provide free healthcare services to residents. However, it's important to note that while residents can access these services for free, non-residents may be required to pay. The healthcare system is funded by taxes and contributions from the National Insurance Scheme. The public healthcare system in Barbados is complemented by a growing private healthcare sector, which offers a wide range of services, often with shorter waiting times. However, these services can be quite expensive. It's recommended that foreigners living in Barbados have comprehensive health insurance to cover any medical expenses," said another expat in Bridgetown, Barbados.
