As a foreigner living in Tartu, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Tartu if they have access to public healthcare in Tartu. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"As a foreigner living in Tartu, you will have access to public healthcare if you are a legal resident and have registered with the Estonian Health Insurance Fund (EHIF). The public healthcare system in Estonia is generally of good quality, with well-equipped hospitals and qualified medical professionals. However, it is important to note that there might be some language barriers, as not all medical staff may speak fluent English. Additionally, waiting times for non-emergency treatments can be long. It is also recommended to have private health insurance to cover any additional costs or services not provided by the public healthcare system," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Tartu, Estonia.
