As a foreigner living in San Pedro Sula, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in San Pedro Sula if they have access to public healthcare in San Pedro Sula. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"As a foreigner living in San Pedro Sula, you will have access to public healthcare. However, it's important to note that the public healthcare system in Honduras faces several challenges. The system is often understaffed and underfunded, leading to long wait times and a lack of certain medical supplies. Many public hospitals and clinics are in poor condition and may not have the same level of care or equipment as private facilities. Additionally, not all medical staff may speak English, which could pose a communication barrier. It's also worth noting that serious or complex medical issues may require evacuation to a country with more advanced medical facilities. Therefore, many expats and long-term visitors choose to use private healthcare or secure comprehensive international health insurance," said a member in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
