As a foreigner living in River Valley, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in River Valley if they have access to public healthcare in River Valley. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"Yes, as a foreigner living in River Valley, you will have access to public healthcare. However, it's important to note that the subsidies provided by the government for public healthcare services are primarily for Singaporean citizens and permanent residents. As a foreigner, you may have to pay higher fees compared to locals. Singapore's healthcare system is renowned for its high standards and efficiency. The country has a mix of public and private healthcare providers. Public hospitals in Singapore are well-equipped and offer a wide range of medical services. They are staffed by highly trained medical professionals, many of whom have international experience. In terms of primary healthcare, there are numerous clinics throughout the city, including River Valley, where you can seek medical attention for minor ailments. For more serious conditions, you can visit one of the public hospitals. Despite the high quality of care, waiting times can be long at public hospitals due to the high demand for services. Therefore, many expatriates and wealthier Singaporeans opt for private healthcare, which offers shorter waiting times and more personalized care, but at a higher cost. It's also worth noting that Singapore has a mandatory health insurance scheme called Medishield Life, which is primarily for citizens and permanent residents. As a foreigner, you won't be covered by this scheme, so it's advisable to have your own health insurance. In summary, while you will have access to public healthcare in River Valley, Singapore, you may have to pay more than locals and may experience longer waiting times. Therefore, having a good health insurance plan is crucial," commented one expat who made the move to River Valley, Singapore.
