As a foreigner living in Ljubljana, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Ljubljana if they have access to public healthcare in Ljubljana. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Ljubljana, you will have access to public healthcare if you have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or if you are from a country with a bilateral agreement on healthcare with Slovenia. If you are from a non-EU country without a bilateral agreement, you will need to have private health insurance to access healthcare services. The public healthcare system in Slovenia is generally of good quality, with well-trained medical professionals and modern facilities. However, waiting times for non-emergency treatments can be long, and there may be language barriers with some medical staff. It is recommended to register with a local general practitioner (GP) who can refer you to specialists if needed. Emergency services are available to everyone, regardless of their insurance status," said another expat in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
