What do people like (and dislike) about Tirana?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Tirana, they replied...

"Expats and digital nomads generally like living in Tirana, for several reasons. They appreciate the low cost of living, which allows them to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle without breaking the bank. The city offers affordable housing, food, and transportation options. They also enjoy the friendly and welcoming nature of the local people, who are often eager to help and make new friends. Tirana's vibrant café culture and lively nightlife scene are also popular among expats and digital nomads. The city has a growing number of trendy cafes, bars, and restaurants, offering a variety of local and international cuisine. The city's central location in the Balkans makes it an excellent base for exploring the region, with easy access to nearby countries and attractions. The mild Mediterranean climate is another appealing factor, with warm summers and relatively mild winters. The city is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including mountains, lakes, and beaches, providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities and weekend getaways. However, there are also some aspects of living in Tirana that expats and digital nomads may dislike. One common complaint is the city's traffic congestion and lack of reliable public transportation. The roads can be chaotic, and driving can be challenging for those not used to the local driving habits. Air pollution is another concern, as the city has experienced increased levels of pollution in recent years due to rapid urbanization and a growing number of cars on the roads. Additionally, the city's infrastructure and public services may not be as developed or efficient as those in more established expat destinations. Some expats and digital nomads may also find the language barrier to be a challenge, as not everyone in Tirana speaks English. However, many younger locals and those working in the tourism and hospitality industries are likely to have a good command of the language. Lastly, while Albania is generally considered safe, petty crime and pickpocketing can be an issue in crowded areas and tourist hotspots. Expats and digital nomads should take the necessary precautions to protect their belongings and personal safety," commented one expat who made the move to Tirana, Albania.
